THE DREAM

The new cd from the band "InThis Moment" was highly anticipated and I for
one could not wait to hear their sophmore effort. I mean after their first cd "Beautiful Tragedy" which I thought was an Excellent debut from an up and coming potential superstar band, we all had every reason to believe this band was on it's way.
Did the band get lost along the way and forget who they were?
All I can say is "Where is the Metal"? Did the band run out of money during the recording process and forget to put all the Metal parts in the cd? This cd sounds like a carbon copy of the band "Paramore" who just in case you dont know who they are let me clue you in...they Suck and are not anything close to resembling a Metal band.
I will never understand these bands who struggle for years to get acceptance and finally when they do,they change everything.Another band who recently did this was Kittie and the new "In this Moment" cd has that same kind of commercial vibe to it.
Vocalist Maria Brink is without a doubt one of the most gifted and talented singers I have ever heard. She is able to pull off the delicate balance of Angelic clean vocals and gutteral growls better than just about any female singer around today. The band backing her up is excellent and their ability to change from a Symphonic style to all out Thrash was one of the unique things I loved about this band on the first cd,but apparently they have chosen a different path with "The Dream".
Other than the tracks "Forever" and "The Great Divide" this cd just does not do it for me.It is pretty clear to me the band and their management made a desicion to go in a more radio friendly direction this time out. My only question is "What the Hell for"? The first cd sold very well, their live show was Amazing and this band was getting more and more popular each day, so once again I have to ask myself....WHY the change?
Every band who wants to last in this business has to be versatile and be able to tweak and fine tune things from time to time, but you never want to lose your core audience and I am afraid that is exactly what In this Moment has done with this new cd. However tweaking does not mean to completley abandon who you are as a band and what you stand for, does it? Or in this case instead of the word tweaking I may be forced to use the horrible word all of us Metalheads have always hated to hear........"SELLOUT".Is that what is going on here under our very noses, someone got to this band and filled their head's with visions of "Pop Superstardom"?
Is it me or do we not have enough "Pop Vomit" (Thank you Otep for that phrase) to swim through on a daily basis, cant we just let "In This Moment" be who they are?
When this band first came onto the scene a few years back they reminded me alot of the band "Killswitch Engage" with their ability to blend the different genre's of Metal and keep the sound refreshing and unique.
Unfortunatley after listening to "The Dream" it did not live up to any of the hype or expectations that we had all been hearing for the months leading up to it's release,if anything it was more of a "Wet Dream" for me.
If you Love Maria Brink's vocals and want to put on some music to sit and relax to at night to make you sleepy, then this cd is for you. If you were expecting music with some "Balls",sorry friends but you wont find it here.
I give "The Dream" a very dissapointing 5 out of 10
RATING: 5 out of 10
