FATES WARNING PERFECT SYMMETRY 1989 REVIEW DONE
BY ERIC
|
Review: Perfect Symmetry is my favorite cd
by Fates Warning. This cd has an identifiable sound. From the production,
to the vocals, to the overall music, there was nothing in the late 80's that
sounded remotely similar. "Part of the Machine" is a great opening song with
it's machine like introduction
and it's dynamics (the way it builds). "Through Different Eyes" is the first
song that I heard off this disc (I saw the video). The chorus in this song
is memorable. "A World Apart" is a moody song, which has an odd time section
in the beginning.
The acoustic guitar parts let this song breathe. My favorite track on this
cd would have to be "At Fates Hands". This song is what progressive rock
is all about! Odd time signatures, acoustic guitars, operatic vocals, a tight
rhythm section, and melodic guitar solos. The interlude (instrumental
section) should make the band Rush jealous (a major influence on Fates Warning).
The violin solo in this song is an interesting texture. This is one of the
best thought provoking rock cds available. FAV CUTS: Rating: 9 |
