Morbid Angel: Death metallers MORBID ANGEL lead off the show. I have not heard one song by this band before so hard to really judge there perfomance. I am not a big death metal fan really and I think to enjoy it you need to know the songs. They were definitely fast and loud. They played about 30 minutes and head banged from start to finish. Skrape: A new band to the metal world and again one I have not heard any songs from til this show. They didn't sound to bad but not something I think I will be purchasing but they rocked pretty hard for the most part and had lots of energy. Kinda of a cross between Deftones and maybe heavier stuff like Static X. They as well played about 30 minutes and might of gained some new fans. Static X: Now on to a band I know. About a month ago they released there new cd Machine. They played about 40 minutes and they put on a killer show. The bass player Tony Campos had his arm in a sling so he just did backing vocals or should I say backing screaming. A friend filled in on bass and did a good job. The band had so much energy and performed there songs just the way they were made. Vocalist Wayne Static said a cool thing when he said "Great to be in Canada again, the home of Rush and Triumph" I was surprised to hear that from him but it was cool. They mixed up the show with songs from both cds. Some highlights to me were GET TO THE GONE, THIS IS NOT, PUSH IT, I'M WITH STUPID. Once they got on stage the moshing sure picked up too. Not my thing though. I am to old for that stuff. Slayer: Metal veterans Slayer hit the stage as the arenas fills up to see them. They played about 40 minutes as well, not as long as I thought they might but I guess it was Pantera's concert but Slayer was still kick ass. They played a few songs from there up and coming cd GOD HATES US ALL and they of course played some classics with SEASONS OF THE ABYSS and WAR ENSEMBLE among a few others. A lot of people there to see them and they didn't disappoint. Pantera: The Cowboys from Hell took to the stage and played a powerful show. There latest release has been out for awhile now so it was more like a best of show. They played some killer cuts from there latest and the show was filled with Pantera classics. The regular show ended with of course COWBOYS and they did one encore and did WALK. Other highlights of there set were FUCKING HOSTILE, 5 MINUTES ALONE, GODDAMN ELECTRIC, REVOLUTION IS MY NAME, MOUTH FOR WAR. The band was smoking for this show and the performance was top notch. I have read about PHIL'S antics at some show like not being in a good state for performing but he seemed normal enough to me and had a great time getting the crowd into it more then they were already. The band was tight and the heat was hot from the flames shooting up the back of the stage. KERRY KING of SLAYER joined them on stage for part of one song. And PHIL dedicated one song to "Canada's Infernal majesty of ANVIL" Very cool for him to say that and pay homage to a Canadian metal band. PHIL mentioned that it will be the last Pantera show in a long time so they must be gonna take a long break from touring and rest up. They definitely put on a killer show for there last one for awhile. The moshers had a workout in this show. |
