That might have been the most intense concert I've ever attended. Nevermore's live intensity could be compared to the rawness of Master of Puppets. The show began with the strange artwork of Dead Heart, in a Dead World lit up by neon lights. Some fog drifted in. The energy permeated throughout Jaxx. Nevermore ignited with Nacrosynthesis. The fans went ballistic! After the band completed the tune, lead vocalist Warrel Dane says "how are we doing!?" He went on to say, "I love playing in Springfield because you guys are f**king nuts." We proved this later in the night (I'll cover this later). Later in the set, Dane stated, "we just made a video, not that you will see it on MTV." The crowd chuckled and booed. Dane then said, "why don't these new metal bands have guitar solos?" He was so
right. We heard an acoustic guitar moments later. It was The River Dragon Has Come (my favorite tune on their new cd). Jeff Lomis' 7-string was commanding. Dane had the audience sing the first verse. Some of the other highlighs include: Engines of Hate, The Death of Passion, and The Sound of Silence. What I thought was cool about Nevermore's set list, was that they played their new cd in it's entirety. Nevermore played one encore for the night. It was The Sound of Silence. Dane prefaced the song by saying, "this is our final song, I want to see you guys on stage." The band began the song. No one leaped on stage. Dane then devlishly said, "don't make me drag you up here." Shortly after this statement, a few fans climbed onto the stage. Security tried to get them off stage. One dude stage dived high into the air. By the second chorus, the band was barely visible since there were so many people on stage. It was absolute chaos! After the song ended, Dane closed their set by saying, "Jaxx, you guys are really f**king nuts." He spoke the truth. I knew Nevermore was going to be great (I've seen them before), but I didn't realize the show would be as intense and entertaining as it was.
