METAL MAIDEN OF THE MONTH 

 AUGUST/SEPTEMBER

Metal Pit:  As one of the founding members of Witchbreed, describe the band for us and what in your opinion makes Witchbreed stand out from some of the others?

Ruby:       Witchbreed is our ( the witchbreeders )  escape from this world. The band is formed by 4 guys and a girl, and when they are together they make some kind of magic called the unique sound of Witchbreed. Well if you listen to Witchbreed the first thing that pops up is the heavy riffs and a strong vocal. That’s why I think that we are different.




Metal Pit:   How did your band come about?

Ruby:         Well basically was Ares and Dikk that decided to make something Dark and unique, and so they called me to lay some vocals on the four tracks they had already made. Then we made auditions for a second guitar player, Filipe was far the best in everything, he has a great personality, and then of course Tiago was the perfect drummer for us, he is a 20 year old drummer with skills of a 40 year old drummer , hehehe.

 

Ruby:         Well they are very different, each one with a peculiar personality and different musical backgrounds. Filipe is the thrash one, Dikk the heavy metal old school one, Ares the black metal head and Tiago the progressive Geek!!!  
          They are very good to me sometimes when we are on the road they are overprotective , like hawks , and they make me feel very safe on stage , and that’s the most important!

Metal Pit:     What can potential new fans expect from your live show?

Ruby:           Playing live it’s  what we are all about! The new fans will have a show of heavy and very dark riffs, a lot of head banging  and




Metal Pit:     Are there any plans for a major tour in the near future?

Ruby:          Well all I can say is that if you want Witchbreed to go and give a bad ass show in your town, just send and e-mail to our label ascendance records asking them for us in your town, you can find them in our MySpace!





Metal Pit:    Who writes the lyrics and music for the band?

Ruby:         The lyrics are written by Ares and Dikk, and music is made by all the members of Witchbreed.




Metal Pit:    When did you decide you wanted to be a singer in a Metal band?

Ruby:          My dad was a guitar player and he inspired me to sing, and I also had my older sisters who would listen to dream theater and a bunch of metal bands in the early 90’s . My voice was made to flow with heavy riffs!





Metal Pit:    Who are some of the band's musical influences?

Ruby:         Every good metal band is an inspiration for us, bands like Celtic frost, , Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Nevermore, Iron Maiden  and many more.


Metal Pit:    Who influenced you growing up?

Ruby:         I must say that I grew up listening to progressive stuff like Dream Theater, Ark, Malmsteen, Steve vai, Satriani, and then  I grew up a bit more and  my metal taste changed into the death and black metal scene. I’m a sucker for black metal riffs!!!! 





Metal Pit:   What is up with Witchbreed right now?

Ruby:         Well we are finishing the Heretic Rapture album, our debut album. The album  then will go to Germany to be mastered and mixed by Waldemar Sorychta ( Moonspell, lacuna coil, the gathering, samael, tiamat etc..)

Metal Pit:    How can we get our hands on your music?

Ruby:           You can listen to our songs in MySpace, and you just have to be patient until the album comes out , it will be near you!



Metal Pit:   One of my favorite songs from the band is "Brotherhood of the Fang and Claw”, can you tell me where the lyrics for that song came from?

Ruby:          Brotherhood of Fang & Claw is about the occult, fantasy,  you can imagine an old ancient  man telling the story about  the creatures of the night..




Metal Pit:    There are more Metal bands these days than ever before with female singers. Does this make it easier or it still a hard thing to convince some people that you belong?

Ruby:         Well I wrote an article about that a few weeks ago;   there’s a lot of female fronted metal bands  now a day’s but  90% of them are terrible, and they make it hard for those who work their asses  off and just got a tag saying another female fronted metal band.  So it is hard to convince men that there are some fierce  women that can take Metal to another new 
level !!




Metal Pit:    Do you have any advice for any young girls out there who want to be in a Metal band?

Ruby:         Yes I do. Girls if you want to sing or play in a band,  a metal band, just make sure that you are really good at it!!!





Metal Pit:    What is the Metal scene like in Portugal where you are from?

Ruby:           It’s growing, the most known band is Moonspell, and there’s some bands trying to get the same status as them.  The metal scene is quite big; there are a lot of young kids getting into Metal.

Metal Pit:    Is Witchbreed the only band your involved in?

Ruby:          Yes, Witchbreed is my main priority.





Metal Pit:    When you’re not being a Metal Singer what do you for fun or relaxation?

Ruby:         Well I like to spend some quality time  with my fiancé Paul Allender (COF) eating lots of cookies and chocolates ,he he , and I also like to go to the beach and swim !





Metal Pit:     Can you tell us one of your favorite stories of being on the road with the band?(Dont hold back,we put the kids to bed)

Ruby:           I will tell you about what Ares Tiago, Filipe and our roadie Psi did in a hotel after a gig, I was drinking my tea and talking to Dikk about the show, we stayed in a desert hotel there was only us in the hotel and it was creepy as hell, so all of the suddenly we saw  something outside a white blur, it was them naked with toilet paper all around their bodies . It was pretty funny!

Ruby:         Yes, all i have to say is that for you guys to keep on listening to good metal music, doesn't mater if it's death metal or black metal ,what matters is if it's good!!!  thank you for this opportunity to let myself know to you guys!  remember :
