Metal Pit :    Greetings Karin,so great to have you as a guest of the Metal Pit today.

Karin Axelsson:     Thanks alot! and thanks for having me!

Metal Pit :       When did you first get into Metal music and what band or musician inspired you to do so?

Music always meant alot to me my entire life. I had many favourite groups, genres and artists through the years. But I think I started to listen to metal around the age of 12 or 13. Pretty soon Marilyn Manson became my favorite group. And now I have all the albums, dvds, book and all haha. But nowadays I have many more favorite artists not only in metal. you performed on stage in some other capacity in the past?

Metal Pit :      Why did you decide to become a bass player and do you play any other instruments?

I actually started out playing guitar, both electric and acoustic. When I was a kid my dad used to play alot to me and he also taught me how to play in the beginning. Later on I also started to play a bit piano and I took lessons in both singing and electric guitar my mother is a bassplayer though so we always had a bass at home and sure I tried to play that too. But it wasnt until I joined the band that I really started playing alot of bass professionally.

Metal Pit :      What was the hardest part of learning to play the bass for you?

Well I didnt really think it was that hard at all, since I had been playing guitar for years before I started playing playing bass.

Metal Pit :       What kind of gear do you use and why?

I play Ibanez 520 basses one black and one white, because I like how light my ones are, look as simple as I want them, easy to play and sounds great.
With that I have AKG wireless bass/guitar system, AKG wireless in ear system. Finally I have an Ampeg cabinet and Ampeg B5r amplifier.

Metal Pit :     Do you use a different bass when playing live as opposed to the one used when in the recording studio?

On this new singles "Burn this city" and "Rebellion in Nightmareland" I have been usuing my Ibanez 520. That is also my live basses, I use them for everything. On the previous albums I have also been using Ibanez.

Metal Pit :     Who are some bass players you admire?

At the moment I think the bassplayer in MUSE. But I really want to give credit to them all, cause all of them are amazing musicians.

Metal Pit :
How would you describe your sound to someone who never heard your music before?

I would say modern metal. We dont wanna put a label on our music, saying we sound like this or that because then you have to follow that. Which is just boring. I think people should listen to it and then say what they think.

Metal Pit :    How is the new singer Nathan working out?

Nathan is great, he is really one of us from the beginning. A new member of the family, a new brother to me.
We have all gotten closer as a group since he joined. He has an amazing voice and energy that fits in perfectly with what Sonic syndicate is.

Metal Pit :    The band is managed by Flavia Canel from the groundbreaking female Metal band Drain STH, how did you come to work with her?

We have a management company that is called MNG Management and Flavia is one of the people working there. I found out about the management and contacted them. We started talking, one of the guys came to a show and we've been working close ever since. It is a great management that me and Sonic Syndicate are very happy to work with.

Metal Pit :
Flavia commands legendary status from Metal fans all around the world, what is it like working with her and were you a little starstruck when you first met her, I know I would have been?

Flavia is a great musician, great person, and a great friend to me and the band. I knew about Drain before I met Flavia, I liked them alot so it was kind of cool when we first go to meet her.

Metal Pit :
Has she been able to give you any advice about the music business and what "not to do" ?

Since she has been in this business for so much longer than we have, she knows how it works so therefore she can give us great advice. She is also a very talented bass and guitar player, so sometimes when she comes to shows she helps out with the gear.

We've chosen 3 songs that we'll send around to labels in the next months and see what offers will come.

If we don't get the chance to record a full length in the next period, we will in any case release a new EP with our best new songs for all our fans to enjoy. This is planned for the end of this year beginning of the next.

Metal Pit :
The band is currently on the "Burn this City Down" tour, how long will it last and where will you be travelling to?

We are starting the tour this month in Sundsvall, north in Sweden with a band called Takida. We'll be in Sweden for about eight shows, then off to the UK to do a headlining tour for a week, after that straight to Germany and Holland to do both some headlining and some shows with Hollywood Undead.

Metal Pit :    Do you prefer the insanity of playing live or the creative process of recording in the studio?

Playing live - always. I actually dont like being in the stuio that much, I just want to be on the road and play live as much as possible. When playing live everything happens, all the expieriences you remember, you know? Meeting fans, meeting other bands and friends. Playing live in front of thousands of people that love you, there is not a feeling better than that.

Metal Pit :     Do you personally enjoy the smaller venues or the larger open air shows?

I like both for different reasons. Smaller clubs are nice because you get closer to the audicence and it all feels more like a party in a way. But on the bigger and really big venues you have way more space on stage to move around and can have more fun that way. In the end though,it always comes down to the audience. If they are good, it doesnt matter where you play.

Metal Pit :       What kinds of other things do you enjoy doing other than music?

When I am home I try to hang out with my family and friends as much as possible. And like any other gir lI love to go shopping haha,it is like therapy for me. I also follow alot of tv series that I try to catch up on when I'm home.

Metal Pit :     It is so great to finally see women in Heavy Metal getting the exposure and respect they deserve as musicains,
do you agree?

Of course I agree. People need to realize that women are just as good as men in this business. Sometimes I meet people that think that only because I'm a girl I cant play, and that really pisses me off. So thank's for all your support Metal Pit!

Metal Pit: You are the only female in a band with five dudes, does that present some problems at times?

Being the only woman in a band is not a problem for me, the guys are like brothers and family to me. But yeah, they're also not really scared of sharing their farts, burps and porn talk with me either. Boys will be boys that's the way it is!

Metal Pit : Can you tell us about "Sonic Tv"?

Sonic TV is what it is. Its about us. We have our own camera and do everything ourselves. Richard is editing it all and putting it onlie. Sonic tv is a way for us to show more of a personal side of ourselves, what happens when we're not on stage, on stage, rehearsing and everyting around it.

Metal Pit :      Where can fans of yourself and the band pickup your music or merchandise?

You simply visit www.sonicsyndicate.com and then you'll find our merch there!

Metal Pit :   When can we expect a new full length cd from the band?

We are writing new material right now that we're going to record in the beginning of next year, and have released around april-may. So soon the wait will be over!

Metal Pit :     What does it mean to you to be chosen as the Metal Pit's Maiden of the month for December?

I am very honored and glad of course that I got chosen. It really is a cool thing! Thanks!

Metal Pit :
Karin, on behalf of myself and the Metal Pit we want to thank you for spending time with us today. You are an excellent bass player and very cool person and we wish yourself and the band all the best in the coming new year

Thanks to you as well!

Horns up brothers and sisters.......

Nick Rohm.
