Metal Pit : Hello Sasha, thanks for joining us on the Metal Pit today.
Sasha Hellcat: Hello, thank you for inviting me.
Metal Pit : I noticed that June is your Birthday Sasha so I guess the
first thing I must say to you is HAPPY BIRTHDAY from myself and the
Metal Pit !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.
June is my favorite month of the year.
Metal Pit : Any crazy party plans for your special day?
I will make a
Birthday party and invite all my friends. I can't wait!
Metal Pit : We wish you a great day and many more
to come Metal sister.
Thank you guys!
Metal Pit : You and your sister Sonja who plays drums in the band
formed Hellcats a few years back, can you tell us why you decided to
form an all female Metal band?
Sonja and me were on the stage from a very early age, while we were
still at music school. Having an all female band was something we
wanted from the start. Since we were two girls already playing drums
and bass guitar it seemed best to find a female guitar player. One
thing led to another… Since we were tr ue metal heads and into music
from our teenage years we knew exactly what we wanted. A Heavy Metal
band!
Metal Pit : There have been some great all female bands from across the
pond over the years such as Drain Sth, Hysterica , Girlschool and
Crucified Barbara just to name a few, were you and Sonya influenced by
any of these bands to start yor own band?
I know them
all and i like them. My favorite all female band of all times are Rock
Goddess who were an all-female heavy metal band from the New Wave of
British Heavy Metal era .
Metal Pit : How would you describe the Hellcat
sound to potential new fans out there?
Hellcats sound
is thick, massive, characterized by highly amplified distortion,
extended guitar solos and emphatic beats. Pure Old School Heavy Metal
with positive lyrics and heavy sounds of the guitars.
Metal Pit : Are you and Sonya very close as siblings? It must be really
cool to be in a band with your sister, right?
We are very
close. I'm really happy that I have such a great sister! She is my best
friend. We started this band together and we do most of the work here.
We wrote all the songs for Hellcats together. Since we don't live
together anymore, we hear each other everyday. It's really cool to be
in the band with my little sister.
Metal Pit : Is your family supportive of what the two of you are doing
and have any of them been to one of your shows?
Our parents
are supporting us. We started to learn instruments at a very early
age at music school. Sonja started to play flute at age 5 and me guitar
at 7.Our mother has been driving us to the music school and back for
many years, three times a week.
Metal Pit : Can you tell our readers about the
rest of your band mates?
When we were
forming this band and looking for the right members we were not only
trying to find the good musicians, but we were also looking for good
personalities to get along with and to become friends as well . We
think this is very important for female bands because girls like to
chat more than guys. First we've found our guitar player Ket and in a
few months later after the audition for singer, we decided to invite
Valentina.
Metal Pit : Do all of you still work regular jobs as well and if so can
you tell us what they are?
We all wish
that the band could become a full time thing, but for now we are still
working and studying. Sonja is an electro engineer, I am an architect
and Valentina and Ket are students.
Metal Pit : Your hometown is Slovenia, can you tell us a little about
your home?
Slovenia is a
small country in Central Europe, touching the Alps and bordering
the Mediterranean. It is known as the »sunny side of alps«.
Slovenia bordersItalyon the west, Croatiaon the south and
east,Hungaryon the northeast, andAustriaon the north, and also has
a small portion of coastline along the Adriatic Sea. I live in
Ljubljana which is the capital of Slovenia.
Metal Pit : What about the Metal scene there ?
Slovenia is
quite well developed when it comes to metal and we have a festival
called Metalcamp which is one of the biggest metal festivals in Europe.
It has delivered a respectable contribution to our metal scene over the
years.
Metal Pit : Has the band had the oppurtunity to play alot of live shows
?
We have many
live shows in Slovenia and in other countries across Europe. We love to
perform! Right now we are planning a summer tour in Slovenia and
Croatia. We are attending one of the biggest festival in Croatia in
june and Metalcamp as well.
Metal Pit : What can fans expect from a Hellcats live show?
Our show is
filled with positive energy and of course pure Heavy Metal in high
heels. We are always having a good time on the stage and love
to see the crowd having a good time with us.
Metal Pit : What other tunes do you play at your shows, any covers?
We play mostly
our songs and of course some cover songs (AC DC, Pantera, Vixen…)
Metal Pit : The band curently has only one song
out for fans to check out,the tune "Heavy Metal" is very cool....can we
expect more songs such as that one on the band's first full cd?
We are
currently recording our EP. We have plans to release it in the
summer of 2011 and then to start recording our first full
length CD.
This is going to be our debut album. All songs (lyrics& music) were
written by me and Sonja. We are recording in Studio Conti, here in
Ljubljana, by producer Davor Kontic. You all can expect pure Old School
Heavy Metal with positive lyrics and heavy sounds of the guitars, in
two languages (Slovene&English).
Metal Pit : When will we be hearing some some new music?
In a
few weeks the next single from
our upcoming EP will be released.
Metal Pit : Are there any videos planned for the band in the near
future?
Yeah, we have plans to make a video when we release our EP. The
screenplay is under construction and the team is gathering. There are a
lot of ideas.
Metal Pit : You play bass for the band, Sasha, what first attracted to
to the bass?
I borrowed the
first bass from my friend who inspired me to start playing.
When
I started learning bass I was already a classic guitar teacher so I was paying
for my lessons with the money I earned by teaching guitar.
Metal Pit : What kind of gear do you use and why?
Ibanez,
Epiphone Flying V and Mark Bass Amplifier.
Metal Pit : When you are not playing music in the band what kinds of
things do you enjoy doing to relax and unwind?
I
love ha n ging
out with my friends and playing sports but most of all I like going to
the seaside to relax.
Metal Pit : What is your opinion of women in the Metal scene today
Sasha?
I adore
them. There is not many of us and we have to struggle in this mostly m
ale world. We are first and for now the only all female metal band in
our country and it's not always easy. There are always some skeptics
who think that women cannot be as good of musicians as men,
but through the years we became stronger and we follow our
dreams no matter what others think. But when you are on the stage, all
that stuff and other problems are forgotten.
Metal Pit : Do you see yourself as a role model or inspiratin to young
female musicians out there who may want to follow in your footsteps?
As a teacher
and as a bass player I am extremely proud when I see that my students
and other young musicians are inspired by me and may want to follow in
my footsteps.
Metal Pit : Where can fans find out more about the band or hear your
music?

Metal Pit : Is there anything at all you would like to add to your
interview Sasha?
Keep up the
good work!
Metal Pit : What does it mean to you to be chosen as the Metal Pit's
Maiden of the month?
I would like
to thank you for chosing me to be The Metal Pit's MAIDEN of the month
for June 2011. . Metal on!
Metal Pit : Sasha, on behalf of myself and the Metal Pit we want to
thank you for sharing your time with us today.Hellcats is a cool band
and I cant wait to hear some more music from you all.We wish you the
best of luck in all that you do.
Horns up brothers and sisters..........
