The Metal Pit's "MAIDEN" of the month for May 2009 :    

 Raiana is the vocalist extraordinaire for the band "KHZ" and she was kind enough to give us an interview today.

Metal Pit :     Hello Raiana and welcome to the Metal Pit.
Raiana:        Hello and thanks for the invite.
Metal Pit :   Your band KHZ is sort of an enigma in the fact that the music is not one dimensional and definitely does not fit into any type of mold, is this something the band set out to do from the start?

Raiana:      Well, we strive to be honest and do what we feel. We do try and push ourselves and to not be bound by any rules.



Metal Pit:  Your music has been compared to everything from Nine inch Nails to Ministry to Pink Floyd, do you think the uniqueness of the band comes from the diversity of it's members?

Raiana:     I think it comes from what I said above, not allowing ourselves to be bound by any rules.

 

Metal Pit:     You and Pull (Guitarist and keyboardist) seem to have such a strong chemistry together and the two of you are pure magic to watch on stage,how did you furst meet?

Raiana:    I was signed to a label as a solo artist and he came in to produce and write some songs, we met and realized we could
do more together then what that label at that time was into. We eventually left the deal and the rest is history.



Metal Pit:    Who are some of your personal musical influences?

Raiana:        I am more influenced by emotion. Music  is music, it all deserves respect and has something to offer.



Metal Pit:     Your vocal range is nothing short of genius,are you professionally trained and when did you

Raiana:           Wow thank you, No I am not professionally trained, I started singing at 3 but in my childhood years I really wanted to be a professional dancer. I applied for the school of performing arts in NYC for dance, I was not able to go for dance since they judge you first on your body and mine was not that of a ballerina. I was offered to attend for voice and I Accepted while studying dance on my own in NYC. Eventually Singing took over.


Metal Pit:    Other than singing,what other kinds of jobs have you had in the past?

Raiana:      I have had jobs like all kids, from retail to fast food and later on some modeling.



Metal Pit:      Have you ever wanted to get into producing or other mediums in the music business?

Raiana:          No actually, not at all.

Metal Pit:    Are your family and friends supportive of you and the whole "Metal" lifestyle?

Raiana:          Yes they are and have always been supportive of what I do and how I do it.

 


Metal Pit:    What are your thoughts on women in the scene today and what advice would you give to young women who want to follow in your footsteps?

Raiana:   I don't often look at it like that, I mean, men vs. women. I think anyone should do what is in their heart, be true to yourself. If you do that you can't lose.




Metal Pit:   What are some of the goals for you and the band in 2009?

Raiana:        To better ourselves, as musicians and people.

 

Metal Pit:    Any new videos on the horizon and do you enjoy the whole video creation process or is it just a necessary evil?

Raiana:    Yes we have our newest video coming out any day. It is really more of a short film and I am very excited about it. I really love making the videos and we always strive to do more.

 


Metal Pit:   KHZ has produced some classic cd's such as "Reality on a Finer Scale" and "Disconnected", when can we expect new music from the band?

Raiana:      Again, thank you. You can always expect new music from kHz, hopefully before the end of 2009.

Metal Pit:   What about touring,any plans to do some outdoor shows this summer?

Raiana:      We are always looking for tours but till then we have some other ideas like our live broadcasts.

Metal Pit:       Speaking of the road,any crazy stories you can share with us?

Raiana:       I so often get asked that but as of now no, we tend to stick to business on the road so maybe we are just boring.




Metal Pit:   What is something about yourself that maybe your fans do not know?

Raiana:    If they judge me purely on what they see in kHz there are many things they do not know. hmm, 1 thing....Other than on stage, I am a very quiet person.

Metal Pit:     What does it mean to you to be chosen as the Metal Pit's Maiden of the month?

Raiana:    Any time anyone says anything nice about you it is a compliment, and I appreciate it very much.
