          The October Metal Maiden of the Month is KATHIE JARRA of the Arizona Metal band Stygmata. 

           
 BIO/INTRO
        
                    Kathie is a very respected guitarist in the metal world with her current band Stygmata and also had a previous band named, JARRA (Lion Music -2000). Check out this interview then check out her metal projects.

THE METAL PIT:  Why do you listen to Heavy Metal?      Mainly because I love grinding, attacking, aggressive guitar playing and drumming within the context of excellent songwriting of course...haha......



THE METAL PIT:  How did you get  into listening to Heavy Metal?   From what I recall it was a natural progression out of listening to and performing rock and hard rock.....discovering The Scorpions, Judas Priest, Accept, Dio seemed to be that open door to where I am now. Once exposed to it.....there was nothing else. 






THE METAL PIT:  Your top 5 Metal bands?          

Wow........that is hard to narrow..........only 5?  From today and some of yesterday I can just say quickly.............

Scorpions
Judas Priest
Slayer


 


THE METAL PIT:  Favourite concert you have ever seen?  
           Near impossible to choose that one as  I have seen sooooo many great metal shows..... in recent memory..........in the last year or two.... WASP in Las Vegas haha............ 






THE METAL PIT: What is the best thing about going to a Metal Concert as a fan?       I get to enjoy the music and do not have to worry about equipment and talking too much...I just get to enjoy the metal.............. 


What is the best thing about being at a metal concert on stage as a performer?  Getting to hear your tunes at full volume and full power and having that exchange of energy with the audience.

 

THE METAL PIT:  What was the first metal concert you saw?       Have no clue.............I have a vague memory that it may have been the Scorpions or Priest in Philly as a kid 

                                                                       



THE METAL PIT:  Why is your guitar of choice The Flying V?
                                               Well as the years have passed I have learned to love them even more deeply for their uniqueness and beauty but in the early days I just saw Michael Schenker playing a white flying V in black leather pants and there was never any going back.  I just thought..."that is me!" 
               My first V was a White Gibson V and I stil have it.  They are just bad ass!




THE METAL PIT: What made you want to play guitar and be in a Metal band?          

                    Well, I started playing piano when I was five and writing songs when I was about nine years old and so my musical career was just an extension of that love of music in general.  It was so natural and effortless that I am not even sure how that occurred. 
 
                   I was already a musician and songwriter as a teen and playing in local garage band type entities and so as I became connected with other players doing the same, when we got together and formed bands it just seemed we were choosing metal and hard rock to cover of the bands we loved and then it evolved into metal writing I suppose. 
 
                 Now it seems like it could not be any other way.....





THE METAL PIT:  What is your favorite Metal album of all time and why?      

Geez.................. everyone's taste can be so different but what jumps out at me right away is Dio with Sabbath - Heaven and Hell but there are zillions of great albums in metal............so much talent...this is just my opinion off the top of my head.









THE METAL PIT:  Outside of Heavy Metal what is most important in your life? 

My Faith, my health, my animals, my friends and loved ones and having personal integrity.



THE METAL PIT:     Describe your band STYGMATA?
          
We are a four piece, female fronted, melodic metal band with influences ranging from Sabbath to Primal Fear and Dio based out of Arizona USA.



THE METAL PIT:  What is happening in the world of STYGMATA? 
  
              We are in the process of securing worldwid distribution for the new CD, Bleed and going into rehearsals for a big tour that is scheduled to last between 18 -24 months. We plan to kick off the tour in February / March of 2008 in TX, AZ, NM, CA.....then head over to the east coast, NJ, NY,  PA etc and then head overseas next year to the metal festivals.
 
               I have already begun writing a new STYG CD and we plan to continue on after this tour with a new album.



THE METAL PIT:   What would be your advice to a aspiring female metal performer?
           
         Don't listen to negative people, practice your ass off and become the best singer or player you can be and be yourself with a passion.  Keep your integrity and never be something or someone that someone else wants you to be and don't take no for an answer....



THE METAL PIT:  Why did you want to be a Metal Maiden?
