Metal Pit:                    Hello Jennifer and welcome to The Metal Pit.

Jennier Rose:        Hello! Thanks for having me, The Metal Pit!

Metal Pit:   You are a very talented young lady Jennifer,at what age did you know music was something you
wanted to pursue as a career and more specifically, what got you into Metal?

Jennifer:   I have been loving and singing music since I was a baby and according to my Mom I have been singing for the public, whether I was asked to or not since I was two years old. At age five I told my Mom that I was going to be a singer when I grew up and I never once changed my plan! I have performed and studied every genre of music possible. I was a Vocal Music Major in College and studied voice privately with Professors for years. I’ve sung in several languages too. As a professional singer I’ve been hired to sing in various genres and perform different leading roles in Musical Theater and Light Opera! You name it I’ve sung it! Heavy Rock from Classic Rock/Metal roots is where I choose to express my lyrics and singing style through because it’s my passion! Metal, Rock & Roll gives people the voice and the license to say the things you might not say in your everyday life, or if you are really hardcore, lol, it gives you music to the words you say in your everyday life. When you listen to my song, “Toe 2 Toe”, or “Shut Up and Kiss Me!”, you’ll know what I’m talking about! Hahaaaha!

Metal Pit:     When I first heard your music it definitley conjured up images of the Joan Jett and Lita Ford days, are they some of your musical influences?

Jennifer:    Absolutely and hell yeah! I am a huge fan of the early Female Rockers and I’m grateful that they carved the path for me to continue representing women through music that is ballsy, bold, edgy and tough!

Metal Pit:     Who else do you consider as an inspiration to you?

Jennifer:     Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, Terri Nun from Berlin, early Debbie Harry (her Punk years). I like the Ladies in that era, they have had a big influence on my style!!! I designed my sound to be reminiscent of the Rock/Metal sound of the 80’s meets current Rock with a heavy edge.

Metal Pit:      You are a singer, do you write all your own lyrics too?

Jennifer:     I write all of my lyrics, the ideas for the songs, the sound, that all comes from me and my vision for my project.

Metal Pit:    Tell us about your band?

Jennifer:        My guys are Awesome, each individually and together they produce a tight and LOUD, Rockin’ sound on stage. They are each very skilled and strong musicians! Martin Motnik is my Bass player and he can play a bass like it is lead guitar! Hayato Tacomo is my lead guitarist, and he is responsible for delivering those electrifying guitar solos, and he always delivers! Grom Melaviglia is my heavy hitting Rock drummer, because he’s no light weight when it comes to hitting those drums full force, with a steady beat! We work well together on stage and we have a great time!
The musicians on my CD are different from the guys in my band. The vocals and instrumentals were recorded on the East Coast. Lead guitars were recorded by Matt Oree and Jimi K. Bones (who has toured with both Joan Jett and Blondie)!

Metal Pit:        I read somewhere you used to be in a Blondie tribute band, Deborah Harry was an
inspiration to a lot of females who wanted to play music.

Jennifer:          Yes, I was, I think she was a great inspiration to females. She was, I believe the first female to show that females can be tough, ballsy and extremely gorgeous and sexy doing so! I was intimidated to mimic someone who is revered and such a gorgeous lady! I would watch her video’s and think, “Oh gawd, why did I accept this gig, she’s gorgeous! Those shoes are too big to fill!”

Metal Pit:    You have a four song demo cd out called  "Alone and Unsupervised", can you tell us a little about the cd and how it came about?

Jennifer:           A major Label expressed interest in signing me off of some cover tunes that they heard on my website. After a meeting with their A&R guy and telling them the direction I wanted to go as a solo artist, they asked me to do a 2-4 song demo in the style that I wanted to be signed under. They connected me with a Music Manager to help me find the right Producer to work with, but he didn’t seem to get my drift or get me completely, so I set out to find like-minded musicians to write with. It’s been a really long journey, but I finally found the right people to work with and I’m so excited to have an album that I am really excited about and proud of. It’s been a labor of love, for sure and I’ve been through a lot to get it finished! I’m stoked that I can finally share it with everyone!

Metal Pit:    Any plans to get out on the road to support the cd?

Jennifer:    Absolutely! I have several well known heavy hitters in the music industry waiting to review my full length CD. I am hoping to get some backing to get this show out on the ROAD! I’m ready to ROCK! We need some good old fashioned kick ass, serious Rock & Roll more than ever! My new songs are all fun and kicken’, so I can’t wait to get touring to share some fun and heavy hitting Rock & Roll! I love performing and sharing music with people more than anything!

Metal Pit:   Have you had the opportunity to play a lot of live shows, and if so, do you perform any covers or just originals?

Jennifer:        I really just do originals with my band now. I have sung other peoples music live for so long that it is really a thrill to finally sing my own notes and my own lyrics.

Metal Pit:    You have the full length cd scheduled to come out next month, correct?

Jennifer:     Yes! Right now I am concentrating on putting the finishing touches on the CD, which is being Mastered and then sent to printing soon. It’s taken longer than I had anticipated, but I think I will have my finished CD in February! Then we will be performing live like crazy! UK radio stations have already been asking me to come over for clubs and festivals. I’m very excited.

Metal Pit:   Do you feel there is a natural progression of your music from the demo to the new music?

Jennifer:         Oh definitely. The new songs are even tougher and more ballsy. The 6 new songs are even closer to what I had envisioned for my sound. I tried to really write a variety of songs that express exactly what I want to say as an artist, but to make a really fun concert! I set out to write out a collection of songs to perform and to take people on a fun adventure with me and my band. It’s my hope that my show and my CD will leave people with the feeling that they can do anything, have whatever they want, be who they are, kick anybody’s ass that tries to stand in the way of making your dreams come true, and to have one Rockin’ good time!

Metal Pit:    On your Myspace page you talk about the "Rock for Hope" Concert, Can you tell us about that?

Jennifer:         If you go to Metal Castle or Steve on my top friends, you’ll find all the info on those sites. Steve from Metal Castle is a huge supporter of Hard Rock and Metal Music and he is rounding up the troops to help raise money for the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital who work with children with cancer.

Metal Pit:       You are also featured on a compilation cd called "Women of Rock", how did you get involved in that?

Jennifer:        I submitted my song, “I Go A Little Metal” to be considered for the compilation CD and they chose my song out of thousands of submissions! I’m always trying to get exposure for my music!
The Edge 100.1 FM pitted that same song against Katy Perry’s song, “I Kissed A Girl”. They play two songs back to back and ask listeners to call in and vote for which song they like better. Listeners chose my song, “I Go A Little Mental”, so I won the cat fight! Yeaaahhh! Then the radio station did it again when Katy Perry’s song “Hot & Cold” came out and my song won again! How cool is that? I was excited for commercial radio to be playing my songs and then to win two contests with the listeners was icing on the cake!

Metal Pit:    Personally,I think it is high time to start hearing more of this kind of music. Women in Metal are more popular now than ever but the solo female rocker is still very rare. Maybe you are a pioneer Jen and will start to change all that?

Jennifer:      Ah! I LOVE you! Well, to be honest, I really have said from the beginning that it’s time for the Pop Princess to share the Main Stage with a female Rock Artist. I’m not interested in being a polished Pop Star, I want to represent the everyday woman who is ballsy and tough, who guys and girls will want to Rock out with, and sing my songs loud and proud! I want to be the female Bon Scott! I want to make Joan Jett proud! Ahahahaa! Lucky for me, the response from both men and women has been incredible! I get the coolest e-mails from men and women who really support me in a huge way and thank me for bringing female Rock back! I am blown away by music lovers everyday who take the time to encourage and support me and my music! That really keeps me going! So, thank you guys! I love you for that!!!

Metal Pit:     What advice would you give to any female rockers out there just starting out?

Jennifer:    Just to hone your craft whatever it is, singing, playing an instrument etc. I’ve focused on becoming a strong singer and performer my entire life. I’ve taken music, singing, acting and song writing classes. I’ve been involved in every musical project I could become involved in, to become a well rounded singer. Also, don’t rely on things like American Idol to “make you a star”! Too many people have been misguided by a reality show that “makes” people into a singing star, so people really think you don’t have to do any work! I met a young singer recently who was on American Idol for 2 weeks who said, “Oh yeah, those guys in the 80’s couldn’t really hit those high notes, that was all done in the studio.”
I almost choked! I said, the studio doesn’t fabricate notes from thin air, those guys could REALLY sing their asses off! He asked me my advice for becoming professional and if he should practice at Karaoke bars.
The truth is, to be really good at anything, including singing or playing an instrument is to have a natural musicality, study, practice, learn the rules and then learn how to break those rules to deliver songs that people feel in their hearts and down deep in their souls. Once you’ve done that, you pound the pavement and showcase to anyone who will listen, because like Bon Scott and the boys from AC/DC said, “It’s a Long Way to the Top if you Wanna Rock & Roll”, but it’s definitely worth it if music is the blood that runs through your veins!

Metal Pit:   You are also a dj for "Metal Head Radio - TV", is that something you have always wanted to be involved in or did it just kinda happen by accident?

Jennifer:   That happened by accident. I am very comfortable in front of the camera and on stage so it’s really easy and fun! I love supporting other musicians, so it really works out. I write my own scripts and it gives me freedom to promote music and be myself while doing so, so I love it! The Metal Head Radio is an awesome family to be a part of, they are great supporters of my music and I really appreciate all that they do for me.

Metal Pit:     Is the dj thing something you are going to pursue in the future or will the band be your main focus?

Jennifer:          Definitely my music will always be my main focus. I’ve dedicated my entire life to singing, writing and performing, so that’s where my main focus will always be.

Metal Pit:  What is the Metal scene like these days in L.A.?

Jennifer:   I hit the Sunset Strip (The Whiskey, Viper Room, Key Club) as often as I can. The music is really across the board right now. I think there will ALWAYS be a place for Metal, Metal fans are very loyal and dedicated to the genre, so there will always be a demand. Same with straight up Rock & Roll with metal blazing guitar solos, really that’s what is missing on mainstream radio! Most songs on the radio don’t even HAVE guitar solos! What has happened?! Let’s change that, shall we? Let’s bring back all of the stuff that we loved when Music really ROCKED us all to the core! The musicians and the demand is out there, they just need a platform.

Metal Pit:    What is the best Metal show you have seen?

Jennifer:    Wayne’s World! LOL  ahahaha! Does that count even though it’s not a real show? Metal Head Radio TV show, of course!

Metal Pit:    How do you deal with the negative people out there who try to put down the music we love?

Jennifer:    Well, I say, “If you want to listen to Barry Manilow that’s totally your perogative, just get head phones so that I don’t have to hear it! Haha. To each his own really, but like I say in my new song, “Full Throttle” - “..if you don’t like it you can step aside, cuz I KNOW you can’t handle my ride!” ;)

Metal Pit:  Can you tell us something about yourself that maybe your fans do not know?

Jennifer:   Mmmm, I love SUGAR and that I’m really a morning person. Nobody wants to Rock out with me at 10 in the morning though, so it kinda sucks! Ahaaha.

Metal Pit:   Where can potential fans get your music?

Jennifer:    You can currently buy my 4 Song EP on iTunes & Amazon. My CD will be sold on iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby as well. And I’ll also be selling through my website with merchandise! I have a Rockin’ new logo!

Metal Pit: What does it mean to be the Metal Maiden of the month?

Jennifer:  It means that I have an awesome community of Metal Music lovers that are amazingly supportive and I am truly lucky to have that! I’m always so touched to know that people are responding to what I am doing. As an artist all you can do is stick to your guns about how you choose to express yourself through music and hope that it touches someone else, so I am grateful and stoked to be the February Metal Maiden for Metal Pit!!!l

Metal Pit :  Jennifer, it has been very cool getting to know you today. For myself and The Metal Pit, I want to thank you for your time. We wish you luck with the new cd and a very Happy and successful New Year.

Jennifer:   Thank you!!! Thank you for the feature and for the support, The Metal Pit Rocks my world! ;)
