Metal Pit : Greetings Alisa and welcome to the Metal Pit
Alisa: Hello,
Nick and all Metal Pit readers.
Metal Pit : Can you tell us a little
about your bandmates and how you all got together?
I created the
band at the age of 16. Initially the band was meant to be all-female but it
didn’t work out. I don’t regret anything though for I have the most wonderful
people beside me now. There’s too much I have to tell about each of them, and
they really deserve it. You can find guys on facebook and chat with them or
visit myspace page to know more about us.
Metal Pit : You have had a few
lineup changes in the past, how many people are in the band
currently?
Yes, we have changed our lineup many times but it’s
stable for more than a year. Now we are seven.
Metal Pit : In your
opinion Alisa, is the current lineup the best you have to date?
I
really like our current lineup, for many reasons. They`re great persons, friends
and perfect musicians.
Metal Pit : Do you find with so many people in the
band that there are alot of creative differences and egos to overcome at
times?
We always find a common language, despite the fact that our
tastes and views differ considerably. The most important in this regard is to be
able to compromise and to give everyone the opportunity to contribute themselves
in music.
Metal Pit : I would classify Alice in Wonderland as Symphonic
Metal, would you agree with that or how would you describe your
music?
When it comes to talk about the style of our music, we
position ourselves as a gothic metal band. Although I think it's very close to
the Symphonic Metal. In our new material there are a lot of orchestrations. So,
I think your version is true to some extent ;-)
Metal Pit : What other
Metal bands ( symphoninc or other ) have inspired you to do what you
do?
This is a difficult question. We just don’t sound as our
favorite bands. We don’t aspire to be like somebody else. Just play what comes
from ourselves.
Metal Pit : Who writes the majority of the music and
lyrics for the band?
I’m the author of the lyrics for Alice in
Wonderland. As for music usually I bring a song and we arrange it. We always try
to create together. Pavel (our guitarist) writes the orchestrations for the
music. He is insanely talented at this.
Metal Pit : Alisa, at what age
did you start singing and decide this was something you wanted to pursue more
seriously?
I wrote my first song when I was eight. This was the
beginning when I realized that I was born for this. But then for me it was more
important to play the guitar. Big love for singing came later, after creating
the band.
Metal Pit : If I may say so, your voice sounds like an angel,
very haunting and beautiful yet powerful as well......have you had any
professional voice training?
Oh, thank you. Very nice compliment.
I had a few vocal lessons but it was long ago.
Metal Pit : What kind of
things do you do to help take care of your voice?
On one of my bad
traits: I used to take care of someone else but myself :) Nevertheless I try to
keep myself from what is bad for my voice. At least I do not have bad habits
such as smoking.
Metal Pit : Your hometown is Zhytomyr can you tell us a
little about it?
Zhytomyr. It’s located near the capital of
Ukraine. I love it because of the wonderful nature, which is rare for other
cities.
Metal Pit : What is the music and Metal scene in general like
there?
Very different. Over the last years there are more and more
metalheads. But probably more fans for alternative music, nu-metal. Speeking
about metal scene here the situation is common. There are large amount of bands
but much less of those who seriously try to reach their goals.
There`s a
similar situation with organization of gigs. Only some of the teams can manage
concerts on the proper level. But they are working just due to their enthusiasm
since metal gigs organization isn`t very profitable.
No one believes in this
kind of music except us (musicians) and fans.
Metal Pit : The band
currently has a few songs up on your Myspace page but where can potential fans
hear more of your music?
Unfortunately at the moment this is all
that we can offer for our listeners.
Metal Pit : Any plans on releasing a
full length cd sometime soon?
We`re planning to release an EP in
march. Also we are seriously preparing to do a full-lenth album recording we`ll
start in the summer 2011.
Metal Pit : Has the band played alot of live
shows and is a larger tour in your future plans?
We play live
quite often. But it`s not so funny to do gigs here in Ukraine)). The
organization level is absolutely disgusting. Anyway, we`re planning the tour
after the album is released. I can not say for sure at the moment will there be
only shows in Ukraine and Russia, or maybe we`ll play in some other European
countries.
Metal Pit : There seems to be alot of symphonic and Goth Metal
bands in the scene today, some are very good and some are not, what is your
opinion on women in the Metal scene overall today?
Most of the
gothic, symphonic bands use the operatic vocals somehow. In my opinion it's
boring and worst of all the bands became too similar to each other and lost
their individuality. I am fully confident that female vocals (as well as male)
should be original.
Metal Pit : Do you consider yourself a role model or
a mentor for your younger female fans and if so what advice would you give them
about the music business?
Firstly I don’t want to distinguish
between "male" and "female" musicians and fans. In this instance I prefer to
speak in general. I think I can share a lot of experiences with the bands just
starting out but I'll mention just a few things: many people think it's cool to
be only heavy and brutal. It`s just a bug because what is really cool is to do
something from the bottom of the heart. Just do something that comes by itself,
but don’t forget that people need a quality product, not a "basement" band. The
most important things are talent, sincerity and your soul!
Metal Pit :
What sets "Alice in Wonderland" apart from alot of other bands out in the scene
today?
Haha. I’ll try to describe that. We combine the
incompatible things such as horror and beauty, earth and heaven. This is our
philosophy and it’s difficult to explain it in a nutshell. You said that my
voice sounds like an angel;). It`s always important to keep a secret, so that
the listeners are able to create a fantasy. To invent and differentiate their
own way.
Metal Pit : Where do you see this band in the next five years
and beyond?
I think at least we have to conquer the world metal
scene! ;)
Metal Pit : I imagine the band keeps you very busy most days
but what kind of other things do you enjoy doing when not playing with the
band?
I am professionally engaged in photography. I love to read
interesting and informative literature, just listen to music, spend time with my
band). Also I do fitness and work as a designer sometimes.
Metal Pit :
Does your family support what you are doing and have any of them had the
opportunity to hear you sing live?
My parents are really very
helpful, they love our music. Sometimes they come to the concerts. And this is
great. Nice to see them at the show.
Metal Pit : Where can fans find out
more about you and the band and hear your music?
We will launch
our site soon, now it’s under reconstruction. Everybody can find us on MySpace,
Facebook or ReverbNation!
Metal Pit : Is there anything at all you would
like to add to your interview?
I feel that I`ve been talkin` too
much ...:-)
Metal Pit : What does it mean to you to be chosen as Metal
Maiden of the month?
I am very pleased that I was chosen as Metal
Maiden of the month. Feels good!))) It`s very important for each artist to be
the object of attention. Thank you very much for it.
Metal Pit : Alisa,on
behalf of myself and the Metal Pit,we want to thank you for taking the time to
speak with us today.Your band is very unique and we wish you all the best in the
coming new year, and by all means please promise you will take care of that
golden voice,ok?
Thank you as well. We are very pleased to read
such comments about our band. Well, about my voice I will do my best to please
you more. Thank you for choosing me! Take care and good luck!
Horns up
brothers and sisters..............
Nick Rohm.
