The
title alone says it all.
Released in time
for the band's 35thLemmy comes across as
straightforward & unpretentious as the man himself. Over the course
of
three years it follows the legendary bassist from his surprisingly
ordinary
home to the recording studio & elsewhere as he does his thing The
viewer is
treated to a warts-and-all peek behind the proverbial curtain. You see
less of
the debauched rock warrior & more of a simple, rough & tumble
guy who
loves his son, loves his military memorabilia birthday,
& slot machines. There's a
real sense of getting to know the man who started out life as Ian
Fraser
Kilmister.
Although it's in
there too. Lemmy's days in space-rock band Hawkwind are laid out.
Comments from
a host of luminaries from Dave Grohl to Alice Cooper shed light on his
life
& career like never before. A jam session between Lemmy & none
other
than metal heavyweights Metallica is a definite highlight.
Directors Greg
Olliver & Wes Orshoski have stitched together a fascinating piece
of work
aimed primarily at Motorhead fans & aficionados of hard rock.
Personally I
would've liked to have seen & heard more from the rest of
Motorhead, but
overall I can't complain. A welcome addition to any collection!
I'll give this one
a 8.5 out of 10.
