KOBRA AND THE LOTUS hailing from Calgary, Canada with their debut release OUT OF THE PIT. 5 piece band featuring female vocalist Brittany Paige leading the way. There is lots of females appearing in metal bands but it seems you either have the ones trying to be the next Angela Gossow with the guttaral vocals or the classical styled ones like a Nightwish type of band and even though Brittany is a classically trained singer it is nice just to hear some good ole metal screaming except for closing song LEGEND which does show off some of Brittany's classical trained operatic talents. But for the most part is straight ahead in your face old school metal. She has a sort of snarl in her voice especially showing off in SNAKE PIT. Not to be undone the rest of the band standsout musically. The cd featured a cover of the Motorhead classic ACE OF SPADES featuring a guest appearance by Canadian guitar legend RIK EMMETT of TRIUMPH who wails away on that song. The album was produced by Kevin Shirley of Dream Theater fame. This is a good first offering from this band and looking forward to hearing what they do next. Love the idea of the song TEASPOON OF METAL as every doctor should prescribe that. They definitely look like a band to check out live for sure.
