IRON MAIDEN IRON MAIDEN 1980 |
Review: The first step on the Mighty Maiden staircase that leads to the top or near the top of the Heavy Metal world. My first Maiden album was The Number of The Beast so I first heard that version of Maiden but had to check out the before Bruce Maiden and its not as good but still a classic metal album. Paul Di'anno's vocals much different from Bruce but he had a discintive voice for these songs and they still sound better with Paul singing but that might be just from hearing them by him first. They still include some of these songs in concert sometimes which really tells you what they thought of the early stuff. Of course show closer Iron Maiden still rings through now as it did way back in 1980. The 2 ballads or semi-ballads Remember Tomorrow and Strange World just work so well with Paul's singing style. The rockers like Prowler, Charlotte The Harlot, Sanctuary are still Maiden classics and the epic Phantom of the Opera which was a taste of whats to come and not just relying on 4-5 minute songs. For a first release from the these english blokes it still holds its classic feel to this day. Still ranks as one of my top Maiden albums. Fav Cuts: Iron Maiden, Prowler, Remember Tomorrow Rating: 9 |
