METAL PIT INTERVIEW
Rott is a band from Spirit Lake, Idaho (U.S.) whose vocalist Molly Sirenne
has a very haunting and Gothic type of voice that gives this band a sort
of ethereal sound quality that combines with traditional Metal as well to
make for a very interesting sounding band. They will be the opening band
on the Flight of the Valkyries stage this year.

THE METAL PIT: Hello Molly, thanks for being here today.
Molly: Thank you so much Nick for the honor of interviewing me. We are thrilled to be opening Flight of the Valkyries this year as I have been following the press on this massive event for quite some time.
THE METAL PIT: Your band Rott is from
a hotbed of Heavy Metal music. What is the scene like there and what made
you decide to play Metal?
Molly: The scene in
THE METAL PIT: The band has been compared to everything from Godsmack to
Lacuna Coil and I have heard people say you remind them of Dolores the
singer from the Cranberries, what do have to say about those comparisons?
Molly: Well to even be mentioned along with those bands and singers is an incredible honor for me. I am very humbled and flattered that those comparisons are made in fact. As far as my vocals go though, they are pretty different than Sully, Cristina, or Delores but I think the style of our music has some similarities. I just try and bring my own personality and energy to the music. It’s not too hard since I am involved writing the songs and I am happy people like what they hear.
THE METAL PIT: Your cd "Out of Time" was released in 2007 and created a very
cool buzz about this band, what has the last few years been like for you
since that time?
Molly: Amazing! Everyday we “feel the love” of thousands of fans around the world via our myspace site www.myspace.com/rottband. Hearing positive feedback from the fans I’d have to say is my favorite part. We have also been pursued by the media for everything from stories, interviews, e-Books, and radio spots for helping to promote attention for charities which is awesome.
THE METAL PIT: One of my favorite tunes on the cd is "Tortured Souls" and it
seems to have some very personal and disturbing lyrics, can you tell us a
little about the meaning behind that song?
Molly:
Yes.
Tortured Souls “little Susie” was a classmate of our guitarist
THE METAL PIT: Has the band had a chance to play a lot of live shows and if so
how where were some of your favorite places to play?
Molly:
We
played a lot of live shows when Rott first formed. My favorite place to play
has always been The Grail since it is like being home for me. They are so nice
there it is just mind blowing. We were hoping after Out of Time was first
released on our last record label to do more. However things did not end up
that way which I was disappointed about since the fans have been waiting
patiently for so long. Now I have the chance to make it up to them on our new
label Ravenheart Music Records.
THE METAL PIT: How did you hear about the Valkyries festival?
Molly: I am a metal fan as well as a singer after all. And the Valkyries festival is legendary! The acts it’s attracted are huge. Every year I’ve checked out the concert pics online and they looked amazing. Also, we are being managed now by Ravenheart Music and Dave Smith. Ravenheart Music and Femme Metal in the
THE METAL PIT: Who are some of the bands that have inspired you to get into
Metal?
Molly: There are many, but one in particular is Hole. Grunge was huge when I was little growing up in
THE METAL PIT: What is your view on women in the scene today?
Molly: There are no limits. If you have the talent, dedication, perseverance, strength and determination anyone, regardless of gender can be successful I believe. It would be naïve of me to think doors have never been shut. Or that they were never opened due to a singer being female. I however remain optimistic about people’s ability to let the music speak for itself. Look at this spectacular forum of the Flight of the Valkyries festival for instance. Or Ozzfest with Jada Pinkett Smith of Wicked Wisdom and Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. Apparently Ozzy Osbourne had no problems about including these women. (smiles)
THE METAL PIT: Rott is involved with the "Rock for Hope Concert", can you tell us a little about that and how you got involved?
Molly: Well, I have always felt it is important to help others and give back to the community and make a difference whenever and wherever you can. I am especially interested in helping children and animals. The Rock for Hope Concert is for children with cancer. It came to my attention through a friend of mine at Official Metal Castle. I wanted to make sure I contributed with getting the word out. The concert is 50 miles from St. Louis, MO. at the Warren County Fairground
THE METAL PIT: So, after the Flight of the Valkyries Festival, what is in the near future for the band, a new cd on the horizon maybe?
Molly: We have most of the songs written for our new CD and Foundry Studios in Seattle picked out to record it. We recorded our new single "Bring Me the Flame" there in March and I am pleased with the results. It's going to be used in a upcoming movie soundtrack and was released worldwide digitally on ITUNES and Amazon in May. It's going to be used in a thriller movie but I hear that our management is going to do some exciting things promotion wise for the 2012 Olympics coming to London, England. Maybe even as the theme song, how cool is that!! (smiles)
THE METAL PIT: Molly, it has been great talking with you today. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Have fun at the festival and good luck in the rest of 2009 with the band.
Molly: Thank you so much for such intelligent and complimentary questions and everyone at THE METAL PIT for this interview. I get a lot of requests and asked a bunch of interview questions and it's refreshing to get some which are unique and fun as well. I and the rest of ROTT are definitely looking forward to the Festival and seeing all the awesome femme metal fans. For those of you who don't have a ticket yet, shake off the winter cobwebs and let's rock this summer! Love to all my fans. You guys are the best!! ~ Molly Sirenne XXX
