Interview with Metallic Kitty of Decadence
DECADENCE
a up and coming band in the style of Thrash Metal with some melodic
death metal stylings mixed in. Lead singer, band founder and manager
METALLIC KITTY answered some quetions for THE METAL PIT. With 3 full
length albums and one demo this is a band to watch out for. Make sure
you check them out as they will surprise you as they did me!
THE METAL PIT:
What is the moment or album or performer that made you want to
sing in a Metal Band??
METALLIC KITTY: It
was my fascination with the band Metallica, and especially James
Hetfield as a guitarist/singer/song writer that got me into guitar
playing at first, and later singing.
THE METAL PIT: Decadence
has had a few lineup changes in the short time you have been a band. Do
you feel the band is set now for the future?
METALLIC KITTY: I
definitely feel that yes. Our present line-up is stronger than it has
ever been before and we’re all best friends and growing together.
THE METAL PIT: On your profile on your website, one of your dislikes is being compared to Angela Gossow. Why is that a dislike for you?
METALLIC KITTY: First
of all I want to make clear that this statement has nothing to do with
a dislike of Angela Gossow herself. I strongly and deeply respect her
work and accomplishments and seeing it from that point it is an honor
to be put by her side. But, that is also a reason why I want to be
respected for my work and accomplishments as well. I’m not her
(if that’s a good or a bad thing is for others to decide). Me and
Angela sing in bands with different genres of Metal, we have different
vocal styles and the biggest thing we have in common when it comes to
this is that we are both female. My point is that it’s better to
discover than to compare because if you compare, you usually miss out
on much more things.
THE METAL PIT: What would some one expect from a live Decadence show?
METALLIC KITTY: Decadence
has always been seen as a live band. This is when our music literally
comes alive so if I would present Decadence to someone new to us, a
live show would definitely be the place to do it. We love being crazy
on stage, headbanging, connecting with the fans and simply have a good
time with what we love doing the most.
THE METAL PIT: What are
your favorite Decadence songs to play live?
METALLIC KITTY: That’s
a hard question! At the moment I’d say it is Corrosion,
Claustrophobia and Red because of all the places of headbanging and
moshing!
THE METAL PIT: What is happening in the world of Decadence currently?
METALLIC KITTY: We are currently planning new shows/tours and working on a new album and a music video.
THE METAL PIT: What other metal bands would you love to have the chance to play with?
METALLIC KITTY: I’d
say all of the bands that are in my influence list! Some of which are
Metallica, Vader, Death (now that would be hard…), Kreator,
Testament and so on!
THE METAL PIT: What is
the writing process for Decadence?
METALLIC KITTY: Me
and Kenneth Lantz (lead guitar) are the main song writers in Decadence.
We sit down with the guitars and begin to tab our work and by time we
add riffs that Joakim Antman (bass) and Erik Röjås (drums)
write meanwhile we do this. When the tab is done we enter the rehearsal
place and play it from beginning to end. I hold the credits for the
lyrics.
THE METAL PIT: Where do you get your inspiration for your lyrics?
METALLIC KITTY: The
lyrics are words I have written down at different occasions in my life.
I have a whole bunch of them just waiting to be placed on a fitting
musical piece. The lyrics have already been written and are adapted and
placed on the music where it fits the theme.
THE METAL PIT:
How long have you been growing your hair?
METALLIC KITTY: Not
that long actually, three years ago it was about shoulder length and
now it’s about a meter. I have this in my family, both my grandma
and mom have even longer than me!

THE METAL PIT:
Do you feel the internet is a help towards bands today or does it hurt?
METALLIC KITTY: I
think the Internet is an excellent resource. For us, it has been a huge
help to reach out to more people, find contacts all over and simply
spreading the word.
THE METAL PIT:
What is your thought on the state of Heavy Metal today?
METALLIC KITTY: With
Heavy Metal, I assume you mean the Metal scene itself, not the genre
Heavy Metal. If so, it’s hard to make a clear conclusion out of
the modern Metal scene. Scandinavian Metal seems to be dominating but
there’s also a big wave of NWOAHM and Nu Metal/MTV Metal.
Personally, I’d be much more satisfied if old Bay Area Thrash
Metal was brought back to life instead of being overshadowed by other
dominating genres. There seems to be only old bands left in the Thrash
industry and it’s rare to see a newcomer playing in the same
spirit which is a shame. I also like the underground much more than
mainstream Metal because such bands that don’t get the chance to
reach out in the dominating Swedish Death, MTV Metal, etc. scene
usually have a lot to give and also a burning passion that mainstream
Metal often lacks.
THE METAL PIT:
What do you see and hope for in the future of Decadence?
METALLIC KITTY: Many tours and much more albums for a start!
THE METAL PIT:
Thanks
so much for doing this interview with THE METAL PIT. Do have any
closing
comments to THE METAL PIT
readers?
METALLIC KITTY: Thank you, and the readers, for your shown support to Decadence. My final
words here will be the phrase that I so often say: If there's a will, there's a
way! Horns up from Metallic Kitty of Decadence.
