Infernal greetings
from the Pit.
I'm
happy to be
interviewing guitarist Renei Fiel, aka Murderer from up & coming
black
metal band Impious Ominous. If you haven't heard of them yet, chances
are you
will soon.
THE METAL PIT:
Murderer, hail & welcome to the Metal Pit.
MURDERER: Thanks
for having me. And thank you for the chance to let people know
a little more of what we have to
offer.
THE METAL PIT: No
problem. A lot of us outside the Philippines might not have of Impious Ominous yet, so who's in your
band & how long have you been around?
MURDERER: We've
been playing since 2004. We're made up of 3 members. Myself on guitar & vox, with Sayanic on bass &
Warlord on drums. We're working out a
stable lineup. To be honest it isn't
always easy. All of us have to work outside
of our music or whatever. If
one of us gets busy or is unable to fulfil duties
to the band, we try to get someone in to
replace him. In 2006 we replaced
Warlord on drums with Yhods. The same year I was overloaded with work & shared guitar duties with
Wodan for a little while.
THE METAL PIT:
Yhods & Sayanic come from the band Warpigs, isn't that right?
MURDERER: Yeah,
but they disbanded last year.
THE METAL PIT: Do
you have any side projects yourself?
MURDERER: Me &
our ex drummer Warlord had a 2-man band side project named Thy Servant but we ended it to focus in our
Impious Ominous.
THE METAL PIT: How
long have you personally been devoted to your craft? How did you get involved in the metal
scene?
MURDERER: I
learned
guitar when I was in high school. I planned to be in a band that sounded like early Metallica. But I hate
what they've become & don't want to sound like them
now. I want to
be less overdone, more raw & aggressive.
THE METAL PIT: How
would you describe your music?
MURDERER: The
songs I've written are about blasphemy & natural disaster. Yhods has contributed 2 songs so far, all
about pagan believes and blasphemy. So our songs are never about one topic. That's
why we called our music raw black metal.
THE METAL PIT:
Obviously you're going for a very unprocessed, aggressive sound.
MURDERER: That's
right. We play ugly music. Raw & war-like. We want to bet the early Darkthrone ( haha ). Influences!? 1st is
Venom, then early Darkthrone, Mayhem,
&
Deicide.
THE METAL PIT: All
themes that are dear to my blackened heart! If you're at all like me, then you want to see metal go back
to its roots. A less digital, more primal sound.
MURDERER: Exactly!
It's not just that, a lot of bands seem to have forgotten their
fans & their roots. Like they've
sold out or lost their souls. We want success but
not like that, not at that cost!
THE METAL PIT:
Good stuff!
MURDERER: The only
thing I want is for the music I love to
be back in the underground.
I hate to see false metal or people walking around
wearing shirts of a
band I've idolized without knowing anything about them or
what their music means. That is
f^#king abnormal! Hail true black metal
bands!
THE METAL
PIT: Do you have any albums out yet?
MURDERER: We
haven't had a chance to make an album but we've recorded 3 demos. A comrade from Malaysia asked me
to release our demo there, but I doubted
what he could do for us. I want a perfect output of our music so
it never happened. We sent one song for
the Philippines Finest Black metal comp,
but we never get a copy or any news from that project. The band is on
temporary hiatus now but it doesn't
means peace, it means reloading!
THE METAL PIT:
That's good to hear, we'd hate to lose you! What doesn't kill you just makes you stronger, right? So how can
anybody get in touch with you if they
want to use you for a show or help you get your
music out there?
MURDERER: They can
email me & Impious Ominous at metalchrist66@uahoo.com.
You can also check out our poor Myspace
page, but fair warning we haven't
done much
to it. Check us out at
www.myspace.com/impiousominous .
THE METAL PIT: In
parting, what advice would you give other bands that might
be just starting out?
MURDERER: Even
though we have a band we are always learning & wouldn't
consider ourselves
professionals in
making music. Or experts in the business. But
the one thing we can advise is just to do what has to be done! I mean if you
want it, then go ahead. Just do it. You
can make music on your own.
Don't
even wait until you have a band
or a record label. Do it now.
Satanic Warmaster did a one man
army
& our comrade Kratornas did it too.
