HELLOWEEN

GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL

2007

REVIEW BY BLAKE

Review:

Power metal vets back for another dose of the power they made famous or helped too. GAMBLING WITH THE DEVIL is heavier then the last studio release THE LEGACY. More along the lines of THE DARK RIDE. No really long epics which you come to expect from these Pumpkin heads, the closest being the 7 minute rocker THE SAINTS. The heaviest track has the heaviest sounding title THE BELLS OF THE 7 HELLS. AS LONG AS I FALL being your typical lead single with the slow parts and heavy melodic parts. FALLEN TO PIECES is your HELLOWEEN ballad on this one with a heavy middle part to make it not just a skipper. Lots of great guitar leads and solos and the band musically always sounds great with their speedy power metal prowess. Even a little what I like to call Zakk Wylde inspired playing on PAINT A NEW WORLD. ( it makes sense when you hear it)  Andy Deris vocals are impressive as ever. Early releases come with a bonus disc with 2 bonus songs and 2 videos. Also comes with a scratch ticket which is just a collectible and you can't win anything with the scratch card even though I believe that was the plan to start out with. Overall another good release.
