FOZZY
CHASING THE GRAIL
2010
REVIEW BY BLAKE
The
4th release from FOZZY. Led by vocalist Chris Jericho who of course is
a WWE wrestler or was as not sure if he lost a retirement match to make
another album or this is his glory now. Fozzy started out doing metal
covers and was mostly driven by the publicity he could get with
wrestling and even though they weren't terrible it was hard to get true
metalheads interested in it and take it as not just some promotion
thing. Now they are all into the writing their own original songs and
this would be their best release to date but for me it still doesn't
stand out above anything else in the metal world. There is some great
tracks on here like the 13:53 progressive metal epic in WORMWOOD which
is a throwback to a Dream Theater or Maiden epic and it works very
well. The cd starts off with a great headbanger in UNDER BLACKENED
SKIES and a stomping Metal track with GOD POUNDS HIS NAILS which is a
great song title by the way. And as good as those tracks are there are
ones that well just bring the whole cd down like the needless lame Ozzy
like ballad in BROKEN SOUL and the boring NEW DAY'S DAWN. And a few
other tracks that aren't bad but aren't mind blowing either. They are
definitely improving and some great moments that could lead to full on
great metal album in the future but for me this is still lacking for
that full on HELL YEAH!! I know wrong wrestler.
