There must be something in the water in Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
All the best new (not “Nu”) Metal is coming from these
countries! Case in point; the debut album “Anf She Says
Gold” from Swedish band Enbound. Formed in 2006 by drummer Mike
Cameron Force, the band line up was finalized by the addition of former
Work of Art vocalist Lars Säfsund. The end result is an album that
combines melodic power metal, symphonic and progressive elements into a
fantastic debut album chock full of fantastic riffs and solos by
20-year-old guitarist Marvin Flowberg.
The album kicks off with the debut single
“Combined the Souls” with a killer riff and
Säfsund’s impressive range and lots of harmony vocals during
the chorus. The excellent production work of Björn Engelmann
blends the individual instrumentation and layering vocals and harmonies
perfectly. The use of melodic lead vocals and harmonies is what really
stands out on this album on songs like “Noiseless Bullet”,
and “Descending”.
“Squeals of War” begins with a
bass intro by Swede and turns into a thrashy riff with tons of energy
to spare! When they finally slow it down on the song “Frozen To
Be” (featuring guest vocalist LaGaylia Frazier) the duet takes
center stage with lots of dramatic effect. “Under A Spell”
begins with a vocal harmony intro to an anthemic rocker.
“Shifting Gears” is another song that finds the band
straying closely into the thrash metal genre with a melodic chorus. The
piano intro of album closer “Me and Desire” has some
progressive elements to it and is the perfect way to end the
listener’s musical journey.
