LACUNA COIL

COMALIES

2002

REVIEW BY ERIC

Review:

Comalies was my introduction to Lacuna Coil. This is their most complete and focused disc to date. The overall vibe of Comalies can't be described in one sentence. The music melds overdriven guitars with atmospheric keyboards and a deep rhythm section. Vocally, there are powerful female and raspy male vocals. Cristina Scabbia is the centerpiece of LC. She has a commanding yet ethereal voice. While she's attractive, her vocal talents still don't get properly recognized. Heaven's A Lie is the reason I picked up this cd. I caught a live acoustic performance on Headbanger's Ball. The chorus will stay in your head for days not hours :) It has an excellent mixture of melodic and heavy material. Some of the heavy hitters include: Tight Rope, Angel's Punishment, and Swamped (you can't ask for a better opening track!). The Ghost Woman And The Hunter, Unspoken, and Comalies are a few of the melodic pieces (Comalies is sung in their native tongue, Italian). Entwined pours with emotion. Cristina's beautiful vocals and the layered music create a surreal sound scape. For those that are new to LC, buy this cd first! After you've put in 100 hours of Comalies, work your way back in their catalogue.
