ANNIHILATOR

CRITERIA FOR A BLACK WIDOW

1999

Review: I have been a fan of the band since I heard Alison Hell. So no surprise I like this cd as well. Now I have not been able to get the last couple of cds since they were only available on import. So can't compare those to this one. This cd reforms the Alice in Hell lineup. They are back to the thrash roots that were back then. Cd includes a 10 minute interview with leader Jeff Waters. He describes the songs a bit and his life the last while. The opening track BLOODBATH is inspired by him seeing a Slayer concert and it kicked his ass to making this cd. BACK TO THE PALACE is next and it starts with a riff that goes back a few albums to the song THE FUN PALACE it has the same sort of riff but different....Annihilator fans will hear it instantly....I am sure it is done on purpose. SCHIZOS is hard rocking instrumental. There are 2 versions of LOVING THE SINNER, one with Jeff Waters singing and the real track with Randy Rampage on vocals. He sounds great on the whole cd. The track PUNTCURED is a slow punchy song....kinda reminiscent of something Medageth would do. Overall this is a great thrash type cd. If you like old Annihilator you will like this.
