IRON MAIDEN
A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH 2006 |
Review: The Maiden boys showing their most progressive metal release in their career. When I first listened to this release I was excited about it, especially after hearing first single Benjamin Breeg which to me sounded like something that could of been on Powerslave but after repetitive listens I find the slow intros and longer songs are just not inticing enough for me and lots of songs have great parts in it that I really like but then parts that are boring and repetitive. The solos through the cd are great just like Maiden always have and even the return of some of the old Maiden galloping, but overall I am just left wishing their was more to the songs. There is a few shorter rockers in Different World and The Pilgrim that aren't bad but they are not classic Maiden rockers. Closing epic The Legacy starts out with Bruce sounding like he is telling a bedtime story and again song just drags on a bit to long like a few of them do in my opinion. Maybe its my age and being a fan of Maiden since almost the start of the band that makes me put aside new stuff to rely on the classics of the 80's. I really haven't immensely enjoyed a Maiden release since Powerslave so I guess that tellls you my views right there. They are still a classic metal band and one of leaders of metal when it was just starting so for that they will always be praised, But i think I will go get out my Numbef of the Beast when I need my Maiden fix.
