AGONY OF DEATH
2008
REVIEW BY NICK
Holy Moses is a Metalband that has been around since the early 80's and has withstood it's share
of trials and tribulations just as most bands with that kind of longevity have had to endure. Their resume
includes 11 Cd's, 8 Demos, 3 Singles, 1 compilation Cd and along this road well traveled, several
lineup changes as well.
The current lineup of Sabina Classen - Vocals, Michael Hankel - Guitar,Oliver Jaath - Guitar,
Atomic Steiff - Drums and Thomas Neitsch - Bass, seem to havethe proper chemistry and
talent level to keep Banging out one classic Metal Cd after another and their newest release is no exception to that rule.
The latest opus from Holy Moses is called "Agony of Death" on the "Wacken" records label and it
is an instant classic of Thrash/Death Metal from start to finish.
The cd cover art portrays Sabina riding on the back of some type of winged mechanical creature
as it swoops down upon a post apocalyptic city that seems to be engaged in full scale war, with
laser cannons blasting in the background.
Sabina Classen is just as an impossing figure in real life as well and has the vocal talent to
go up against anyone in the genre.
As the cd begins you notice something a little different,a very haunting surreal intro followed
by an air raid siren that leads you right into the first song, "Imagination" which is a Killer
track to open this cd.
Now that you have a taste of what is to come, the band continues to take you on this Metallic
and Futuristic journey of site and sound and the next intro melts into the second song,"Alienation".
From there you are being told a story and each intro into the next song conjures memories
of the soundtrack of the "Terminator" movies with the machines on the attack...Brilliant concept
by the band.
The story unfolds through "World in Darkness", "Bloodbound of the Damned"
"Pseudohalluzination", "Angels in War", "Schizophrenia", "Dissociative Disorder", "The Cave", "Delusional Denial", "The Retreat", then the final climax of the story "Through Shattered Minds / Agony of Death".
Sabina's growls are as impressive as ever and the band has never sounded tighter or more polished.
Holy Moses is a band that has stood the test of time and in my opinion just keeps getting better with each Cd.
The band has produced something very special here and should be commended for their unique and visionary approach to "Agony of Death".
"Agony of Death"is a must have for any true Metalhead and if you never experienced a Holy Moses Cd before,I strongly suggest you get off your Ass and buy this one.
I give this Cd a very strong 10 out of 10 points Brothers and Sisters.
Horns way up..........
Nick.
